LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The Evergreen State College women's soccer team lost at Eastern Oregon University, 5-0, on Friday, Sept. 20. The Mountaineers scored a goal with five minutes left in the first half and another goal five minutes into the second half to turn a slim 1-0 lead into a 3-0 advantage.
It was the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener for both teams. EOU improved to 2-1-2Â overall, 1-0 in the CCC. Evergreen moved to 0-3-1 on the season, 0-1 in the CCC.
Grace Schafer opened the scoring for Eastern Oregon at 30:42. She was assisted by Gracie Hoover. About 10 minutes later, Hoover hit the goal with a shot at 40:27 on an assist from Ashley Smith. The Mountaineers added a goal by Brooke Snyder at 50:05.
Smith tacked on the final two goals for EOU. She scored at 67:54 and at 76:42.
Eastern Oregon outshot Evergreen 16-7 overall and 7-0 in shots on goal. Both of the shots for the Geoducks were taken by
Danean Wurlitzer (Sr., M). Smith topped EOU with three shots, all on target.
Anna Varela (Jr., GK) played all 90 minutes and earned two saves for Evergreen. For the Mountaineers, starter Hannah Krantz and Madeline Barker split the shutout in goal without recording a save, as each played 45 minutes.
The Geoducks will play at College of Idaho on Saturday, Sept. 21. The CCC match-up is set for 4 p.m. MDT / 3 p.m. PDT.
