OLYMPIA, Wash. --
Sophia Scroggins (So., OPP/MB) pounded 17 kills and
Molly Packer (Jr., LB) contributed 35 digs, as The Evergreen State College defeated Multnomah, 3-2, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball match on Friday, Sept. 20 at the Costantino Recreation Center. Evergreen upped its record to 2-8 overall, 2-4 in the CCC, while the Lions fell to 1-9, 1-5 in the CCC.
Evergreen won the match by taking the first two sets and then holding off a rally by Multnomah. The Geoducks prevailed 25-17, 25-22, 19-25, 22-25, 15-7. In the fifth set, Multnomah took a 1-0 lead, but Evergreen surged out to a 5-2 advantage and led 10-5 after a block by
Kaiyah Brown (Sr., MB). The lead was 13-7 for the Geoducks before kills by
Lucendy Perez (Sr., OH) and Scroggins ended the match.
Scroggins was joined in double-digit kills by Perez, who finished with 10.
Ashley Walker Campbell (Jr., OPP) added nine kills. In addition to earning 17 kills, Scroggins achieved a .353 hitting percentage. Packer's 35 digs give her 71 digs in the past two matches. She has 201 digs on the season (5.43 digs per set).

Maloree Calzadillas (Sr., S) earned 18 assists and
Jessica Mitchell (Jr., S) accumulated 16 assists.
Marin Collins (Jr., MB) registered nine total blocks, while Brown was credited with six total blocks. Scroggins added five blocks. Evergreen claimed a 16.0 to 7.0 advantage in team total blocks and limited the Lions to a .016 team hitting percentage.
Sydney Priebe topped Multnomah with 14 kills. Jade Ilaoa tacked on 12 kills for the Lions. Lauren Porter supplied 29 digs and Ilaoa ended the match with 15 digs. Zoe Schuele provided Multnomah with 18 assists and 10 digs.
In the opening set, Evergreen owned a slim 12-11 lead before going on a 7-1 run for a 19-12 margin. The final point of the offensive surge was a service ace by Brown. The Lions were unable to battle back, and the Geoducks won 25-17.
The Geoducks led 6-0 and 9-2 in the second set, but Multnomah eventually pulled within 19-17 on a ball-handling error by Evergreen. Perez added a kill on the next rally for a three-point lead. The Lions cut the margin to 22-21 on a service ace by Ilaoa, but Perez followed with another kill. Priebe scored on a kill for Multnomah to move within 23-22. A kill by Scroggins and a bad set by the Lions gave Evergreen a 25-22 win.
Evergreen held a 13-9 lead in the third set prior to an 8-1 run by Multnomah, as the Lions grabbed a 17-14 edge. Priebe had two kills during the run. Evergreen moved as close as 21-18 on a kill by Perez, but the Lions ended the set with a 4-1 run.
The fourth set was close from beginning to end. Evergreen tied the score at 20-20 on a combo block by Walker Campbell and Collins. The Lions grabbed a 22-20 lead. Two points later the score was 22-22 following an attacking error by Multnomah. The Lions won the next three points, ending with a kill by Priebe.Â
Evergreen will host Warner Pacific University in a CCC match on Saturday, Sept. 21. The action in scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. PDT.
