Jessica Mitchell (Jr., S) provided The Evergreen State College with 17 assists, as the Geoducks swept Warner Pacific University 3-0 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball match on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Marin Collins (Jr., MB) added eight kills and three total blocks to help the Geoducks win 25-22, 25-15, 27-25.
Evergreen has won three consecutive matches and is now 3-8 overall and 3-4 in the CCC. The Geoducks downed Northwest University 3-2 on Tuesday and dropped Multnomah 3-2 on Friday before sweeping Warner Pacific. The Knights fell to 0-8 on the season, 0-7 in the conference.Â
Sophia Scroggins (So., OPP/MB) helped the Geoducks by earning seven kills, while
Lucendy Perez (Sr., OH) supplied six kills, three service aces, and a team-high 15 digs.
Molly Packer (Jr., L) was credited with 10 digs, giving her 81 digs during the week.
Joy Miyazawa (Fr., S/DS) added eight digs.
The Geoducks zoomed out to a 10-4 lead in the first set. Evergreen completed the run with four consecutive points, ending with a service ace by
Amaialyne Cepeda (Jr., DS/L). Later, the Geoducks held a 14-7 advantage. WPU rallied to eventually pull within 22-21 after back-to-back kills by Elizabeth Reid. The Knights also trailed by a single point at 23-22 before Evergreen closed the set with kills by Scroggins and
Yasmin Dilworth (Sr., OH).
Evergreen began the second set with a 7-1 run that featured two kills by Scroggins and a service ace by Mitchell. The Geoducks remained in front, building leads of 16-9 and 20-12 before winning 25-15 for a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, the teams were tied at 8-8 before Evergreen went on a 7-2 run for a 15-10 advantage. Collins pounded two kills during the offensive surge. Warner Pacific recovered with a 5-0 run to tie the set on a kill by Autumn Gaboury-Parker, but the Geoducks gained a 19-15 advantage after a kill by Scroggins and three attacking errors by the Knights.
WPU followed with an 8-3 surge to move in front 23-22 on a service ace by Rose Vazquez. Evergreen regained the lead two points later at 24-23. The Geoducks also led 25-24 on a kill by Collins before Gaboury-Parker answered with a kill for a 25-25 tie. A serving error by the Knights and a service ace by
Jayden Vaimaona (So., S) gave Evergreen a 27-25 win.
Reid led Warner Pacific with 10 kills, while Kyla Reiling topped the Knights with 32 assists. Alyssa Asuncion produced 15 digs. The Geoducks held Warner Pacific to a .056 hitting percentage. Evergreen hit .252 for the match.
The Geoducks with play at Oregon Tech on Friday, Sept. 27. Match time in Klamath Falls, Oregon, is set for 6 p.m. PDT.
