Geoducks Take on Lewis-Clark State in CCC Volleyball

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College volleyball team battled against Lewis-Clark State College in a Cascade Collegiate Conference match won by the Warriors, 3-0, on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Costantino Recreation Center. Sophia Scroggins (OPP/MB) topped the Geoducks with six kills, while Molly Packer (Jr., L) provided eight digs. 

Lewis-Clark upped its record to 5-3 on the season and to 3-1 in the CCC. Evergreen dropped to 0-6 overall, 0-2 in the CCC.

The visitors from LCSC surged out to a 12-4 lead in the first set. Forgash Aguilar had four kills early in the set for the Warriors. Lewis-Clark maintained a strong lead and won the set 25-11.

Lewis-Clark built an 8-3 advantage in the second set, but Evergreen rallied to tie the score at 12-12 on a kill by Scroggins. After calling a timeout, LCSC scored on a kill by Forgash Aguilar to open a 4-1 run. Evergreen moved within 15-13 on an LCSC attacking error, but the Warriors answered with five consecutive points. The set went to Lewis-Clark 25-15.

In the third set, the Warriors started with a 10-1 run on their way to a 20-6 lead. Evergreen rallied to within 24-14 before a kill by the Warriors' Karissa Lindner ended the match. The Geoducks' rally included two kills by Scroggins.

Scroggins was followed on Evergreen's kill chart by Kaiyah Brown (Sr., MB), who finished with five kills. Jessica Mitchell (Jr., S) provided the Geoducks with nine assists.  

Key hitters for LCSC were Forgash Aguilar with 14 kills and Taylor Boyce with 11 kills. Esther Kailiponi contributed 20 assists and seven digs. Natany Felix Guimaraes registered 14 digs for the Warriors.

Evergreen will return to action on Friday, Sept. 13 at College of Idaho. Match time in Caldwell, Idaho, is set for 6 p.m. MDT / 5 p.m. PDT.
