LEWISTON, Idaho -- Four Geoducks from The Evergreen State College each registered five or more kills against #11-ranked Lewis-Clark State College on Saturday, Oct. 18, but the Warriors won the match 3-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. Lewis-Clark State was victorious 25-18, 25-12, 25-15.
Sophia Scroggins (Jr., OPP/MB) led Evergreen with seven kills.
Ashley Walker Campbell (Sr., OPP) tacked on six kills for the Geoducks.
Zofia Formella (So., MB) and
Mikayla Kelly (Grad., MB) each contributed five kills. Formella, who has 101 kills for the season, recorded a .625 hitting percentage against the Warriors with no attacking errors on eight total attacks. Formella also earned two service aces.
Jaci Yamada (Fr., DS) of Evergreen recorded 10 digs and Scroggins added eight digs.
Jayden Vaimaona (Jr., S) paced the Geoducks with 11 assists, while
Sue Losey (Fr., S/RS) supplied nine assists and made seven digs.
The Warriors, ranked #11 in the NAIA Women's Volleyball Poll, improved to 14-3 overall, 11-3 in the CCC. Evergreen dropped to 1-17 overall, 1-13 in the CCC. Fourteen of the Geoduck's losses have been to opponents ranked in the NAIA Poll or receiving votes at the time they played Evergreen.
Lewis-Clark State was led by Taylor Boyce with 15 kills. Juliauna Forgach Aguilar produced 13 kills. The Warriors received a match-high 21 digs from Ella Stosich.
Teagon Scott finished with 13 assists for the Warriors, and Esther Kailiponi was credited with 12 assists. LC State claimed a 42-26 lead in kills and a 55-44 advantage in digs.
Evergreen grabbed a 6-3 lead in the first set, including two kills by Scroggins and a service ace by Formella. The Warriors took an 11-8 lead on a kill from Boyce, but the Geoducks soon pulled within 11-10 on a kill by Formella. LC State answered with a 5-0 run to claim a 16-10 advantage. The Geoducks were unable to get closer than five points later in the set, as the Warriors won 25-18.
LC State owned a slim 4-3 advantage in the second set after Scroggins registered a kill for Evergreen, but the Warriors countered with a 13-0 surge to take control of the set. In the third set, LC State also held a 4-3 lead after seven rallies, and the Geoducks were within a single point at 8-7 following an attacking error by the Warriors. LC State built a 15-8 lead and went on to win the set 25-15.
The Geoducks will take on Corban University at the Costantino Recreation Center on Friday, Oct. 24. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m. PDT.
