Northwest University Defeats Geoducks in Women's Soccer

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Northwest University scored five goals in the first half, as the Eagles downed The Evergreen State College 6-0 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference game on Saturday, Oct. 25. Six Eagles each scored one goal. Gracie VanAssche finished with one goal and two assists.

The Eagles advanced their record to 9-4-3 on the season, including 5-2-3 in the CCC. Evergreen fell to 1-11-1 with a 1-8-1 mark in conference play.

Goals by Megan Hurley at 17:02 and by Van Assche just 44 seconds later gave NU an early 2-0 lead. The Eagles tacked on three goals in about seven minutes later in the half to grab a 5-0 advantage after 39 minutes. The trio of goals were scored by Sara Becerra, Ella Baker, and Kara Bakker. 

NU completed the scoring early in the second half when Hailey Deese earned a goal at 47:27. Kambree Degon was credited with an assist on the play.

The Eagles achieved a 23-4 lead in total shots and a 14-3 edge in shots on goal. NU's shooting advantage was just 7-4 in the second half. Evergreen goalkeeper Katie Gresham (Jr.) accumulated eight saves during the match. NU goalie Katie Shaw made three saves while recording the complete-game shutout.

Bakker of NU topped all players with four shots, all on goal. For Evergreen, Izzy Widener (So., F) led the way with two totals shots, including one shot on goal.

Evergreen will host the College of Idaho on Friday, Oct. 31. Game time at Geoduck Pitch in Olympia, Washington, is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. PDT.
