GREAT FALLS, Mont. --
Izzy Widener (So., F) of The Evergreen State College scored first, but University of Providence rallied for a 2-1 halftime lead and pulled away in the second half to defeat the Geoducks 5-1 on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Argo Field. Kailey Camper earned two goals and two assists for Providence, while Peyton Schmauch provided the Argos with two goals and one assist.
Providence upped its record to 4-3-2 on the season, including 4-2-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Evergreen moved to 0-8-0 overall, 0-5-0 in the CCC.
Widener scored the opening goal just 3:44 into the game. She was assisted on the play by
Madeline Dorendorf (Jr., F). Widener scored from about six yards out near the right post as she was challenged by Providence goalkeeper Jennifer Alvillar. Dorendorf's assist was recorded on a pass from the right side.
The Argos equalized the game at 1-1 less than two minutes later on a goal by Camper from 15 yards out on the right side. Shea Waters assisted on the goal.
Waters added another assist when Kara Wiley hit the net for Providence at the 40:10 mark. The Argos increased the lead to 3-1 early in the second half at 49:27 on a goal by Schmauch with an assist from Camper.
The Argos extended their advantage to 5-1 with two goals in the final seven minutes. Camper registered her second goal of the game at 83:36, as she was assisted by Schmauch and Chloe Pajaro. Schmauch completed the scoring at 88:42. Camper and Lilly Carlson were credited with assists on the play.
Providence outshot Evergreen 18-8 during the game, including a 12-5 edge in shots on target. Evergreen starting goalie
Anna Varela (Sr.) earned one save while playing 45 minutes.
Katie Gresham (Jr., GK) added five saves in the second half.
Emma Stock (Grad., D) earned one save while playing on defense. For Providence, Alvillar finished with four saves. Corner kicks were nearly even, as Providence earned five and Evergreen recorded four.
The Geoducks will play at Bushnell University in Eugene, Oregon, on Friday, Oct. 10. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. PDT.
