KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- Savanna Sterck and Lex Boccia each supplied 11 kills for Oregon Tech as the Lady Owls downed The Evergreen State College 3-0 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference match on Saturday, Nov. 1. Oregon Tech won 25-13, 25-13, 25-9. Evergreen's offense was led by
Sophia Scroggins (Jr., OPP/MB) with six kills.
Scroggins was followed on Evergreen's offensive chart by
Zofia Formella (So., MB), who contributed four kills.
Jaci Yamada (Fr., DS) provided the Geoducks with eight digs and one service ace, while Scroggins was credited with six digs.
Jayden Vaimaona (Jr., S) finished with eight assists. Formella registered two block assists.
While Sterck and Boccia led the offensive attack for Oregon Tech, Abigail Sorensen and Aleksen Thayer led the defense. Sorensen made 13 digs, while Aleksen achieved five total blocks. Sorensen also recorded a match-high four service aces. Lucy Boyd accumulated 36 assists and three service aces for the Owls.
Oregon Tech advanced its record to 12-13 on the season and to 6-12 in the CCC. The Geoducks ended the match at 1-21 overall, 1-17 in the CCC.
The Owls built a 5-1 lead in the first set following a combination block by Willow Jacobson and Thayer. Evergreen pulled withing 6-3 several points later on an attacking error by OIT. The Owls scored the next four points for a 10-3 lead. The Geoducks moved as close as 14-8 on a combo block by Formella and
Bright Brubaker (So., OPP) and 15-9 following a kill by Scroggins but couldn't get closer.
In the second set, Evergreen held a 4-3 lead on a kill by Formella. OIT answered with an 8-0 run that included four kills by Sterck for an 11-4 edge. The Geoducks scored the next point, but the Owls eventually won the set 25-13. The third set began with an 10-1 run by the Owls. Evergreen stopped the run with a kill by Scroggins, before Oregon Tech pulled away.
The Geoducks will host Northwest University in a CCC match on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Action at the Costantino Recreation Center is set to begin at 6 p.m. PDT.
