Three Geoducks Earn Academic All-District in Men's Soccer

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College has placed three student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District list in NAIA men's soccer for the 2025 season. Evergreen's honorees are Kolby Juarez (Jr., M), Walt Nichols (So., M), and Sage Scheuerell (Sr., F). Juarez and Scheuerell were named Academic All-District for the second time after receiving the award in 2024.

CSC Academic All-District honorees needed a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or higher and were required to be at least a sophomore academically and in terms of eligibility. In addition, qualifying student-athletes must have competed in at least 90% of the games played by their teams or have started in 66% of the games. Evergreen does not give letter grades, but the academic accomplishments of the nominated student-athletes were converted to a 4.0 GPA scale.

"I'm extremely proud of how committed each of these three are to their academic and athletic success. They exemplify true leadership both on the field and in the classroom," said Evergreen Head Men's Soccer Coach Steve Schmidt. "This recognition is well deserved!"

Kolby Juarez of Evergreen Men's Soccer, photographed 8/6/2025Juarez, from Bremerton, Washington, attended Central Kitsap High School. At Evergreen, his area of academic interest in Psychology. This year, Juarez played in 14 games -- all starts -- for the Geoducks. He earned two assists and took a total of 19 shots. In three years with the Geoducks, he has contributed nine goals and six assists for 24 total points. He has competed in 48 games with 39 starts in his career. He has taken 76 shots and registered five game-winning goals, including three game-winners in 2023, when he earned a career-high five goals. He achieved a career-high three assists in 2024. He was named Academic All-Cascade Collegiate Conference in 2024 and 2025.

Walt Nichols of Evergreen Men's Soccer, photographed 8/6/2025Nichols is from Columbia Falls, Montana, and attended Columbia Falls High School. He is concentrating on Business and Entrepreneurship in his academic studies at Evergreen. This fall, Nichols played 12 games with 11 starts for the Geoducks. He consistently provided strong plays on both offense and defense. In two seasons at Evergreen, he has competed in a total of 21 games. He played nine games as a freshman in 2024. He earned Academic All-CCC honors in 2024 and 2025.



Sage Scheuerell of Evergreen Men's Soccer, photographed 8/6/2025Scheuerell, who is from Olympia, Washington, and Olympia Regional Learning Academy, is focusing on Environmental Biology and Chemistry as a student at Evergreen. During the recently-completed 2025 season, he saw action in all 15 games and made starts. He provided the Geoducks with one goal on the season. His career totals at Evergreen include four goals and three assists for 11 total points on 25 shots and 17 shots on target. Scheuerell earned a career-high three goals and three assists in 2024. During his four seasons with the Geoducks, he played 57 games, including 20 starts. He played in 15 games in each of his last three seasons.Scheuerell was chosen Academic All-CCC in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
