Evergreen to Take on Southern Oregon in CCC Tournament

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Evergreen State College will battle with undefeated Southern Oregon University in the quarterfinals of the 2024-25 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, on Wednesday, Feb. 26 in Ashland, Oregon. Game time between the Geoducks and the Raiders is slated for 7 p.m. PST.

Southern Oregon, 28-0 overall and 22-0 in the CCC, is ranked #2 in the NAIA Women's Basketball Coaches Top 25 Final Poll. SOU won the CCC regular season title. Evergreen is 8-16 on the season and 8-14 in the CCC. The Geoducks placed eighth in the CCC during regular season play.

Evergreen players Sydney VanNess (Sr., G/F) and Jalyn Sackrider (Sr., F/C) are within one point of each other in career scoring as the Geoducks enter the CCC Tournament. VanNess has scored 948 points, while Sackrider has scored 947 points. VanNess is fifth on Evergreen's all-time scoring list and Sackrider is sixth.

VanNess is averaging 13.7 points per game this season to go with 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. She is ranked fifth in the CCC in scoring and is fifth in free throw percentage at 78.8%. VanNess has played in 70 career games with 58 starts. She has earned 413 rebounds, 124 assists, and 72 steals. She has connected on 107 career 3-pointers, including 37 three's this year.

Jalyn Sackrider takes a jump shot.Sackrider has provided TESC with 12.9 points per game this year, while earning 9.0 rebounds per game and 2.9 blocked shots per contest. She leads the CCC in blocked shots, is third in rebounding, and is 11th in scoring. In four seasons with the Geoducks, she has played in 94 games with 92 starts. Sackrider has grabbed 723 career rebounds to go with 132 assists and a school record 188 blocks.

Mikail Montez (Sr., F/C) is third on the scoring chart for Evergreen this season with 10.9 points per game. She has earned 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. She is shooting 48.1% from the field and 34.8% on 3-pointers. Montez has scored 300 career points.

Also for Evergreen, Allison DeBerry (Sr., G) and Thuyvi Tran (Sr. G) have made important contributions in 2024-25. DeBerry is averaging 6.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. She ranks fifth in the CCC in assists (96 in 24 games). She has scored 293 career points.  Tran has achieved 4.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per contest this year. In her career, she has scored 269 points.

Southern Oregon is led by Morgan Baird (Sr., F) who tops the CCC with 59.4% accuracy on field goals (171 of 288) and ranks second in the conference in scoring with 15.8 points per night. She also has earned 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

Following Baird on the SOU scoring list is Emma Schmerbach (Sr., G) with 11.9 points per game. She also has been credited with 5.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest.  Meghan McIntyre (Sr., G) accumulates 11.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Raiders. She is fourth in the CCC with 4.1 assists per game and has claimed 2.5 steals per game.
 
Bridgette McIntyre (Jr., G) of SOU has scored 9.7 points per contest. She has shot 86.1% at the free throw line (31 of 36) and 44.6% on 3-pointers (70 of 157). Eliza DiGiulio (Jr., F) has added 9.5 points per game. She has converted 53 of 62 free throws (85.5%).

Each of the other three quarterfinal tournament games also will be played on Wednesday. Oregon Tech, seeded #2 and ranked #23 in the NAIA Final Poll, will host Corban University, seeded #7. Lewis-Clark State College, the #3 seed, will host Bushnell University, seeded #6. Eastern Oregon University, seeded #4, will host College of Idaho, the #5 seed.

The CCC Semifinals will be played on Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m. local time. The CCC Championship will be played on Tuesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. local time.
