Women's Wrestling Completes Successful 2024-25 Season

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Evergreen State College women's wrestling team finished an outstanding season in 2024-25. Three Geoducks competed at the NAIA Women's Wrestling Championships and two Evergreen wrestlers earned All-America honors.

It was Evergreen's second season of competition after the program began in 2023-24. Evergreen has the only intercollegiate wrestling program at a four-year college in the State of Washington.

"This season has been incredible, and I'm so proud of our team's efforts," Evergreen Head Women's Wrestling Coach Fan Zhang said."

Leading the Geoducks this year was Flor Parker Borrero (Jr.) in the 160-pound weight class. She took third place at the NAIA Championships and was an All-American for the second year in a row. She placed sixth at the NAIA Championships in the 155-pound weight class in 2024.

Parker Borrero was an impressive 23-1 on the mat this season, with 22 victories on pins and one win by a technical fall. She won the Cascade Collegiate Conference title at 160 pounds for Evergreen's first CCC title in women's wrestling and was chosen Outstanding Wrestler of the Meet. Parker Borrero owns a career record of 42-6 for the Geoducks.

"Jasmine (Flor) had an outstanding year, leading the nation with the most pins in a season," Zhang noted. "She earned the NAIA Most Pins Award with an impressive 22 pins and one technical fall — an amazing accomplishment."

Nizhoni Tallman controls her opponent during a wrestling match. In the 110-pound weight class, Nizhoni Tallman (Sr.) placed eighth at the NAIA Championships this season and was chosen as an All-American. Tallman earned fourth place at the CCC Championships. She was 15-9 this year and owns a 33-17 career record.

"Nizhoni's story is equally inspiring," Zhang said. "Despite dealing with an elbow injury before the National Championship, she pushed through and earned All-America honors. She's a Native American role model for our younger athletes, showing them that desire and passion are key to success. I'll never forget when we watched the finals together last year, and she told me, 'Next year, I'll be standing on that podium.' And she did exactly that. She is my role model, too. She knew her goal."

Also for Evergreen, Ellabelle Taylor (So.) competed in the 124-pound weight class at the NAIA Championships and lost in the fourth round of consolation play. She reached the quarterfinals of the main bracket before suffering her first loss of the tournament. Taylor finished in fourth place at the CCC Championships. She went 6-4 this year and concluded the season with a 26-11 career record.

Ellabelle Taylor competes for the Geoducks."Ellabelle also had a remarkable season," Zhang commented. "She qualified for Nationals, defeated the CCC Champion in the second round, and faced the World Champion in the quarterfinals. Although she didn't achieve All-America status this year as a true sophomore, I'm incredibly proud of her growth and resilience."

Evergreen claimed 16th place in the team standings at the NAIA Championships. The Geoducks scored 32.0 points. The Geoducks received votes in the NAIA Women's Wrestling Poll throughout the season and were ranked #20 in the nation on Feb. 6.

"Having two All-Americans this season is a great achievement, but I know we can aim even higher," Zhang asserted. "I'm already looking forward to next season and can't wait to see what this team accomplishes next!"

Parker Borrero ended the regular season ranked #2 in the 160-pound weight class. Tallman was listed at #16 in the 110-pound weight class.

Key wins for the Geoducks at the NAIA Championships were earned by all three competitors. Parker Borrero defeated #5-seeded Josette Partney of Missouri Baptist University with a pin at 1:36 in the consolation semifinals and downed #4-seeded Micah fisher from the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) in the third place match.

Tallman upset #5-seeded Lita Cruz of Grand View University (Iowa) 6-5 in the fourth round of the consolation bracket. Taylor also grabbed an unset win, as she defeated #7-seeded Alyssa Randles from University of Providence 10-7 in the second round of the main bracket.
