OLYMPIA, Wash. – Shannon Workinger from The Evergreen State College participated at the USA Women's Wrestling Under-23 training camp in late June. Workinger qualified for the USA Under-23 National Team by placing second in the 68-kilogram weight class (149.9 lbs.) at the 2025 Women's Wrestling National Championships in April.
The recent training camp was held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
"It was a great week of training with a group of 20 or so women," Workinger noted. "This wasn't my first time attending a camp at the OTC. It's always a good feeling to be in a room with such high-level women."
Workinger benefited from the training camp in several ways.
"The wrestling room has such a good energy with the common goal of elevating (everyone's skills)," Workinger said. "A lot of the drills we did focused on chain wrestling, always transitioning to the next move."
After training with other USA National Team members, Workinger looks forward to sharing what she's learned with the Evergreen women's wrestling team for the 2025-26 season.
"I'm excited to bring some of that energy and motion to the Evergreen mat room this fall," Workinger commented.
