TACOMA, Wash. –
Corona Parker (Sr.) from The Evergreen State College won the women's high jump with a school record mark of 1.66 meters (5' 5.25") at the PLU Open on Saturday, March 8. The meet, held at Pacific Lutheran University, began with the hammer throw on Friday and concluded on Saturday. Parker's winning height met the "B" qualifying standard for the 2025 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Parker clinched the first place finish when she cleared 1.52 meters on her first attempt, as she was the only remaining jumper. Four athletes missed at 1.52 meters and five other athletes missed earlier in the competition.
Successful first attempts were completed by Parker at 1.60 meters and 1.63 meters. She cleared 1.66 meters on her second attempt. She broke her own outdoor school record of 1.62 meters (5' 3.75"), set last season.
Harlan Estrada (Jr.) of Evergreen completed the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:10.02. His time qualified him for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships.
Other top results on the track for Evergreen were registered in the women's 1,500-meter run and the women's 5,000-meter run.
In the 1,500,
Sherlyn Perales (Fr.) placed 10th out of 24 athletes in 5:08.43.
Madison Palek (So) was timed at 5:09.34 and Trefts completed the race in 5:11.91.
Perales and Trefts also led the way in the 5,000 for the Geoducks. Perales placed second out of 11 runners in 19:03.4. Trefts was fourth and finished in 19:19.74.
On Friday,
Claire Ryan (So.) of Evergreen earned a top distance of 39.39 meters (129' 2") in the women's hammer throw. She placed seventh out of 19 competitors. In the men's hammer throw,
Paul Stewart (So.) provided the Geoducks with a mark of 39.97 meters (131' 1").
