Walker Campbell Earns 7 Kills against Bushnell

EUGENE, Ore. -- Ashley Walker Campbell (Sr., OPP) provided The Evergreen State College with seven kills against Bushnell University on Friday, Sept. 12, but the Beacons defeated the Geoducks, 3-0, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball match. Bushnell won 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 at the Morse Center.

The Beacons raised their record to 8-5 on the season, 2-1 in the CCC. Evergreen fell to 0-7 overall, 0-3 in the CCC.

Sophia Scroggins (Jr., OPP/MB) added five kills for Evergreen, while Jayden Vaimaona (Jr., S) registered 10 assists. Sue Losey (Fr., S/RS) tacked on eight assists for the Geoducks.

Amaialyne Cepeda (Sr., DS/L) led three Evergreen players with double-digit totals for digs, as she accumulated 18. Walker Campbell earned 13 digs and Scroggins finished with 10 digs. Zofia Formella (So., MB) was credited with three block assists.

Hailey Heider topped the Beacons with 13 kills and seven service aces. Soleil Sands and Teagan Dixon each produced five kills. Kailey Shirley led Bushnell with 12 digs, while Katie Belitz achieved 15 assists and five service aces. The Beacons claimed 17 service aces during the match.

Bushnell earned a 33-21 advantage in kills, while Evergreen attained a 51-46 advantage in digs. The Geoducks registered 5.0 team total blocks on 10 block assists. Bushnell made 3.0 team total blocks.

Evergreen led 5-4 in the first set following a kill by Walker Campbell. A bit later, another kill from Walker Campbell created an 11-11 tie. The Beacons countered with a 6-1 run for a 17-12 lead. Evergreen scored next on a kill by Formella, but the Geoducks were unable to get closer as Bushnell won the set 25-15.

The second set opened with the Geoducks grabbing a 4-1 advantage, including a kill from Walker Campbell and a service ace by Scroggins. The Beacons responded with five consecutive points. Evergreen trailed 13-11 a bit later, before the Beacons went on a 7-1 surge for a 20-12 lead. The Geoducks eventually rallied within 23-19 on a combination block by Formella and Scroggins. Bushnell tallied the next two points to win the set.

Bushnell started the third set with leads of 4-0 and 9-3. Evergreen scored next on a service error by the Beacons before Walker Campbell added a kill for the Geoducks. The Beacons increased their lead to 14-7, but Evergreen moved as close as 16-12 on a combo block from Walker Campbell and Formella. Bushnell won the set 25-15.

The Geoducks will play at Corban University on Saturday, Sept. 13. Match time in Salem, Oregon, is scheduled for 4 p.m. PDT.
