Dorendorf and Widener Score Goals in 5-2 Loss to Carroll

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Forwards Madeline Dorendorf (Jr.) and Izzy Widener (So.) both scored a goal for The Evergreen State College against Carroll College (Mont.) on Friday, Sept. 26, but the Fighting Saints won 5-2 at Geoduck pitch. Rachel McAllister registered two goals for Carroll. Widener earned a goal for the Geoducks for the third game in a row.

Carroll built a 2-0 halftime lead and later held a 4-0 advantage, before holding on for the 5-2 win. The Saints improved to 3-1-2 overall, 1-1-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Evergreen fell to 0-6-0 on the season, 0-3-0 in the CCC.

Hayley Smith of Carroll created the game's first goal 12:34 into the contest. She scored on a header from three yards near the right post after receiving a cross from the left side by Aryana Jones. The lead increased to 2-0 for the Saints at the 33:01 mark on a goal by McAllister. Her shot covered 12 yards on its way to the net. She was assisted by Myah Rietze. 

The next goal was achieved almost 15 minutes into the second half. McAllister scored the goal on a penalty kick at 69:49 after a foul was called on the Geoducks inside the 18-yard box. The Saints upped the advantage to 4-0 at 65:53 on a goal by Jones with an assist from Ella Kuenzli. Jones hit the net from 17 yards into the upper left corner of the goal.

Evergreen responded at 73:38 with a penalty kick of its own. Dorendorf took the penalty kick and sent the ball past Carroll goalie Maria Ackerman. 

Deanna Lord of Carroll put in a goal at 86:59 on a 22-yard shot to give the Saints a 5-1 edge. Widener scored for Evergreen just over a minute later at 88:04 on a free kick from 30 yards. Widener also scored goals against Southern Oregon University on Sept. 19 and versus Oregon Tech on Sept. 20.

The Saints finished with a 22-4 lead in total shots and a 13-2 margin in shots on goal. Anna Varela (Sr., GK) provided the Geoducks with three saves in the first half, while Katie Gresham (Jr., GK) earned five saves for Evergreen in the second half. Ackerman did not register a save for the Saints.

Evergreen will take on Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) in a CCC game at Geoduck Pitch on Saturday, Sept. 27. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
