Rocky Mountain Defeats Geoducks 2-0 in Women's Soccer

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) scored early in the game, and added an insurance goal with about 17 minutes remaining, to win 2-0 against The Evergreen State College on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Geoduck Pitch. Emma Lensing scored for the Battlin' Bears at the 6:05 mark and Georgia Dean tallied the second goal for RMC at 73:12.

RMC upped its record to 4-1-1 overall, 2-0-1 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Geoducks dropped to 0-7-0 on the season, 0-4-0 in the CCC.

The goal by Lensing on an 18-yard shot to the lower right corner of the net was assisted by Ashley Donahue as the Battlin' Bears grabbed a 1-0 lead. Libby Raymond (Sr., F) took a shot for Evergreen that was saved by RMC goalkeeper Matea Vernon at 30:19. Rocky remained in front 1-0 at the break and for more than half of the final 45 minutes. 

Dean scored to double RMC's advantage to 2-0 on an 8-yard shot into an open net. Mya Maack assisted on the play.

The Battlin' Bears outshot the Geoducks 17-2, including a 10-1 edge in shots on goal. RMC also held an 8-3 lead in corner kicks. Lensing and Dean topped all players with five shots each.

Both teams played two goalkeepers during the match. Vernon was in goal for the Battlin' Bears for the first 80:44 of the contest, while Anna Cole played the final 9:16. For Evergreen, Anna Varela (Sr.) played the first half and Katie Gresham (Jr.) played the second half. Gresham registered six saves for the Geoducks. Vernon earned one save for RMC.

Evergreen will take on the University of Providence in Great Falls, Montana, in a CCC game on Saturday, Oct. 4. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. MDT / 12 p.m. PDT.
