LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The Evergreen State College lost to top-ranked Eastern Oregon University as both teams opened Cascade Collegiate Conference action on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025. The Mountaineers, who are ranked #1 in the NAIA, won 25-10, 25-13, 25-8, and improved to 9-0 on the season, 1-0 in the CCC. Evergreen fell to 0-5 overall, 0-1 in the CCC.
The Geoducks were led by
Ashley Walker Campbell (Sr., OPP) and
Amaialyne Cepeda (Sr., DS/L). Walker Campbell earned six kills, while Cepeda provided the team with seven digs.
Zofia Formella (So., MB) added five kills for Evergreen.
Sue Losey (Fr., S/RS) contributed seven assists, while
Jayden Vaimaona (Jr., S) was credited with six assists.
Sophia Scroggins (Jr., OPP/MB) earned five digs.
Kiauna Mack paced Eastern Oregon with 11 kills and Brooke Womack tacked on 10 kills. Mack recorded a .471 hitting percentage and Womack hit .474. Kate Stidham supplied the Mountaineer with 18 assists. Jaycee Villastrigo registered seven digs. Mack led all players with four block assists. EOU earned 12 service aces, including four by Villastrigo.
The Mountaineers scored the first seven points of the match and held an 11-3 lead after Mack and McKenzie Jonas achieved a combo block. Eastern Oregon gradually pulled away for a 25-10 win.
In the second set, Eastern Oregon surged out to an 8-1 lead after taking the first two points on kills by Mack. Evergreen battled to within 8-4 on a kill by Formella, an attacking error by EOU, and a combination block by
Bright Brubaker (So., OPP) and
Mikayla Kelly (Grad., MB). The Mountaineers countered with a 7-0 run to grab a 15-4 advantage on their way to a 25-13 victory.
Eastern Oregon took a 6-1 lead in the third set on a combo block by Mack and Stella Koch. Evergreen tallied four of the next seven points, including a kill by Formella, to cut the margin to 9-5. The Mountaineers ended the set with a 16-3 run.
Evergreen will take on College of Idaho on Saturday, Sept. 6. Match time in Caldwell, Idaho, is set for 4 p.m. MDT / 3 p.m. PDT.
