OLYMPIA, Wash --
Sophia Scroggins (Sr., OH) provided The Evergreen State College with 11 kills and seven digs, but the Geoducks lost to Bushnell University 3-0 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference match at the Costantino Recreation Center on Friday, Sept. 11. Bushnell won 25-19, 25-10, 25-11.
Bushnell advanced its record to 8-3 overall, 3-0 in the CCC. Evergreen dropped to 1-6 on the season, 0-3 in the CCC.
Scroggins earned a .333 hitting percentage for the Geoducks.
Zofia Formella (Jr., MB/OH) finished with five kills for Evergreen.
Mikayla Kelly (Grad., MB/OPP) amassed seven assists.
Jayden Vaimaona (Sr., S) tacked on six assists, and
Riley Mangan (Jr., S/DS) added five assists.
The Beacons received nine kills each from Amyah Semau and Taya Blankenship. Soleil Sands added six kills on seven attacks for a .857 hitting percentage and supplied the Beacons with five total blocks. Chloe Farr registered 14 digs, while Emma Fa'alogo contributed 10 digs and seven assists. Addie Evans was credited with five service aces.
Evergreen zoomed out to a 5-2 lead in the first set. The Geoducks' opening run included one kill each from Formella,
Bright Brubaker (Jr., OPP), and Scroggins, plus a service ace by
Jaci Yamada (So., DS/L) and a hitting error by the Beacons. Bushnell countered with a 5-0 run to move in front 7-5.
The Beacons owned a slim 8-7 edge three rallies later. Bushnell added a 4-0 run to claim a 12-7 advantage following a service ace by Fa'alogo. Evergreen pulled within 21-19 later in the match on a service ace by Scroggins before Bushnell tallied the last four points of the set.
In the second set, Bushnell held a slim 5-4 lead after Scroggins pounded out a kill for the Geoducks. The Beacons owned a 9-5 margin on a kill by Blankenship. Formella scored next for Evergreen to reduce the margin to three points. Bushnell answered with a 7-1 surge to take a 16-7 lead. The Beacons took the set 25-10.
The Geoducks held several early leads in the third set, including 4-2 after a kill by
Hollis Hicks (Fr., MB) and 6-4 following a kill by Scroggins. The next four points went to Bushnell, ending with a service ace by Fa'alogo. Evergreen tied the score at 8-8 two rallies later on a service ace by
Rosario Olvera (So., DS/L). The Beacons broke the tied with a kill by Semau and then added eight additional points for a 17-8 lead.
Evergreen will be at home again on Saturday, Sept. 12 to take on NAIA #4-ranked Corban University in a CCC match at the Costantino Recreation Center. Match time is set for 4 p.m. PDT.
