OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College women's soccer team battled Southern Oregon University on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Geoduck Pitch. The Geoducks gave up an early goal, and SOU added a goal late in the game, as the Raiders downed Evergreen 2-0.
The Cascade Collegiate Conference win improved SOU to 5-0-2 on the season, 2-0-0 in the CCC. Evergreen dropped to 0-3-1 overall, 0-2-0 in the CCC.
Payton Puppe-Wotipka of Southern Oregon scored the opening goal at 12:49. The goal was earned on a 40-yard free kick into the upper left corner of the net. Teammate Ava Johnson added a goal for the Raiders in the closing minutes at 86:34. Johnson scored on a tap-in at the left post on a corner kick taken by Macie Yannoni.
Ashlyn Fuss, who played all 90 minutes in goal for the Raiders, picked up the shutout win. SOU held Evergreen without a shot during the game. The Raiders finished with 14 total shots and eight shots on goal.
Melina Grijalva of Evergreen earned two saves in the first half.
Katie Gresham registered four saves for the Geoducks in the second half.
The Geoducks play again on Thursday, Sept. 24 in CCC game at Rocky Mountain College. Game time in Billings, Montana, is set for 5 p.m. MDT / 4 p.m. PDT.
