BILLINGS, Mont. -- Three goals in the first 13 minutes set up Rocky Mountain College for a 4-0 win against The Evergreen State College in Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer action on Thursday, Sept. 24. The Battlin' Bears scored their fourth goal at 23:16 before the Geoducks shut down the RMC offense over the final 66:44.
The early surge helped Rocky improve to 3-0-3 on the season and to 1-0-1 in the CCC. Evergreen slipped to 0-4-1 overall, 0-3-0 in the CCC.
Molly Loughton tallied two of RMC's goals and has scored three goals on the season. She scored the game's first goal at the 5:00 mark on an assist from Mia Daskalovska. After Daskalovska increased the lead to 2-0, Loughton earned her second goal at 12:54. Charlize Davis registered assists on Daskalovska's goal and on Loughton's second goal.Â
Rocky's fourth goal was earned by Grace Curnow. She was assisted on the play by Reese Jeffers.
Goalkeeper Matea Vernon recorded the shutout in goal for Rocky. Vernon made one save and played all 90 minutes. For Evergreen,
Melina Grijalva (Jr., GK) registered one save while playing the first 45 minutes.
Katie Gresham (Sr., GK) provided the Geoducks with two saves over the final 45 minutes.
RMC finished the game with a 15-2 edge in total shots and a 7-1 margin in shots on goal.
Izzy Widener (Jr., F) took both of Evergreen's shots. Loughton was credited with four total shots, including three shots on target.
Evergreen will take on Carroll College (Mont.) on Saturday, Sept. 26. Game time for the CCC matchup in Helena, Montana, is set for 12 p.m. MDT / 11 a.m. PDT.
