Box Score KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - A late rally by The Evergreen State College came up short on Saturday night as host Oregon Tech took a 67-58 Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball win at Danny Miles Court.
Oregon Tech, which received votes in this week's NAIA Division II Top 25 national poll, improves its record to 16-4 overall and 5-3 in the conference. The Geoducks are now 8-6 for the season and 2-5 in the CCC.
The Geoducks trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half before rallying to within two points at the intermission, and then fell behind by 16 points late in the game before a furious comeback got them within five points inside the final minute before OIT held on for the win.
Oregon Tech scored the first six points of the game and eventually opened up a 26-13 lead with 6:15 left in the opening period.
Randi Boseman hit two consecutive jump shots, leading the Geoducks on a 10-0 run that led to them taking a 31-30 lead in the closing seconds of the half. A three-pointer from the top of the key by Ashleigh Vandenbrink with six seconds left put the Owls on top, 33-31, at the intermission.
Boseman, Evergreen's senior point guard, kept her team in the game in the opening half by scoring seven points, grabbing four rebounds and passing out two assists. She added two points, a rebound and four assists to her total in the second half.
The Owls expanded their two-point halftime advantage to 16 points at 57-41 with 5:49 remaining on the clock only to see Evergreen once again rally to make it tight down the stretch.
Natasha Trinidad hit a three-pointer and a jumper to get the rally going and when
Karina Gee drained a three the Geoducks had closed to within five points, 61-56, with 1:43 on the clock.
Evergreen was still within five points with under one minute to play but missed two shots and turned the ball over once while the Owls closed with four free throws from Carrie Thibault.
Uriah Thomas was 6-for-7 from the field on the way to a team-high 14 points for Evergreen. Gee came off the bench to score 11 points, including a trio of three-pointers, while
Sadee Jones and Trinidad both scored 10 points. Jones, at only 5-6, continued to do a great job on the boards for Evergreen with a game-high 12.
The Geoducks shot 39 percent (20-for-51) from the field and 78 percent (14-for-18) at the foul line, and they won the rebound battle, 40-36.
Vandenbrink led all players with 21 points while Tess Armstrong added 12 points and seven rebounds for the winners.
The Owls shot 37 percent overall (22-for-59) and 75 percent (18-for-24) from the free throw line.
Evergreen returns to action at 5:30 p.m. next Friday when Concordia visits CRC Gymnasium for a Cascade Collegiate Conference game.
