Box Score KIRKLAND – The Evergreen State College rallied from a 14-point second quarter deficit but in the end Northwest University held on to beat the Geoducks, 67-61, in the Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball opener for both teams played here Tuesday night.

Gabi Fenumiai led all players with 19 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Geoducks (0-3 overall, 0-1 CCC), followed by Jonelle Staveland with 17 points and Autumn Moorcroft with 16. Lacey Morris led all players with nine assists as the Geoducks finished with 18 assists on their 23 field goals.

Brianna Fiso scored 12 of her 17 points in the second half to lead the Eagles (4-5, 1-0) to the victory. Mariah Stacona and Jordan Asher both scored 13 for Northwest, Asher handed out seven assists and Miranda Langenhorst grabbed 10 rebounds.

Staveland, who scored 12 of her 17 points in the final two quarters, drilled consecutive three-point baskets during an 11-1 run over a five-minute time span as the Geoducks whittled a 53-43 deficit down to 55-54 with 4:10 remaining in the contest.

Moorcroft, who scored nine of her 16 points in the final quarter, nailed a jumper with 2:46 to play to again pull Evergreen to within a point at 57-56, but with the shot clock winding down Katie Rozumny hit a dagger three-pointer to put the host Eagles on top, 64-58, with 36 second remaining.

Moorcroft answered at the other end of the floor 14 seconds later with her own three, but Northwest finished off the game by going 3-for-4 at the foul line down the stretch. The Geoducks committed a turnover, the final of their 23 during the game, inside the final 10 seconds and trailing by four points.

Northwest led for all but 55 seconds of the game, Evergreen taking its only advantage at 9-8 on Victoria Elleby's steal and layup with 4:26 left in the opening quarter.

With Stacona and Asher finding the range from long distance, the Eagles outscored the Geoducks, 25-15, in the second quarter on the way to a 39-29 halftime edge. Northwest was 5-for-12 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes but cooled down considerably in the second half of the game, hitting just 1-for-6. That one, however, was the clutch bomb from Rozumny inside the final minute.

The second half was all Staveland, Fenumiai and Moorcroft for the Geoducks as the trio combined to score all but one of their team's 32 second half points. Together, the three players were 13-for-20 from the field in the final two quarters while the remaining Evergreen players were 0-for-9. Morris played an important role by collecting five of her nine assists during that time frame.

Though the Geoducks owned a significant 47-32 rebounding edge, they committed 23 turnovers that led to 23 Northwest points.

The Geoducks continue conference play this coming weekend with road games against Multnomah on Friday and Warner Pacific on Saturday, both contests tipping off at 5:30 p.m.
