Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon outscored The Evergreen State College by 17 points in the final quarter Thursday night to rally for a 70-55 victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball action.
The three-time regular season champion Mountaineers (9-6 overall, 5-1 CCC) scored 19 of the game's final 23 points over the final 7:35 of the contest to pull out the victory over the Geoducks (1-11, 1-6).
Evergreen gave Eastern Oregon all it could handle for much of the contest as there were six ties and 11 lead changes during the contest. In the end, the Geoducks were hurt most by 21 turnovers that led to 35 Eastern Oregon points.
After an evenly played first quarter, the hosts wiped away a five-point Evergreen lead early in the second quarter to take a 35-28 lead at the intermission.
Eastern Oregon added to its advantage by scoring the initial four points of the third quarter and held a 41-32 lead when Evergreen replied with 10 unanswered points to take a 42-41 edge with 3:06 to play in the period.
Jonelle Staveland hit a three-pointer and
Victoria Elleby added a jumper and foul shot to highlight the spurt. When Elleby made a steal and converted a layup the Geoducks took a 46-44 lead into the final quarter.
That's when the Mountaineers showed their experience, turning a 51-51 tie into a 15-point victory by the end of the game. Eastern Oregon scored 26 points while the Geoducks managed just nine in the final quarter.
The Geoducks shot 46 percent from the field but hit just two of their 12 attempts from beyond the three-point line. Evergreen won the rebound battle, 30-26.
Gabi Fenumiai led Evergreen with 17 points on 8-for-15 shooting, and she tied for game-high rebounding honors with nine. Elleby tallied 16 points and
Uriah Thomas added 12 points and tied
Lacey Morris for team-high assist honors with four.
Eastern Oregon shot 50 percent overall and hit seven of their 21 three-pointers. Maloree Moss led her team with 14 points, followed by Madeline Lann with 13 and Payton Parrish with 11. Nikki Osborned topped the Mountaineers with nine rebounds.
Evergreen is back in action next Friday night when its hosts the Corban Warriors at 5:30 p.m. in Costantino Recreation Center.
