WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NOTES: The Geoducks play their first official home game of the season this coming Saturday when the Lewis & Clark College Pioneers visit Costantino Recreation Center for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
FOLLOW THE GEODUCKS: Evergreen fans unable to follow their Geoducks can do so via live stats and/or a live video stream at
https://portal.stretchinternet.com/evergreen/. Evergreen is happy to have John Hammargren back as the voice of Geoducks basketball on the live video stream.
LAST WEEK: Playing at the Adidas Northwest Classic, the Geoducks found the going difficult against a pair of NAIA Division I national powers in Montana State-Northern and Great Falls. Northern rolled to a 71-35 win, while Great Falls garnered an 87-57 victory. Guard
Zaria Jones (Seattle, Wash./Kentwood HS) scored 10 points to lead the Geoducks in the opener, while junior
Asiyah Davis (Federal Way, Wash./Cleveland HS/Edmonds CC) hit a trio of three-point shots in scoring 15 against Great Falls. Evergreen head coach Jen Schooler said her team played a solid 25 minutes against Great Falls after falling flat against Northern. In both cases, Evergreen was presented with plenty of lessons to learn. The key will be to take those lessons and translate them to the basketball court.
GEODUCKS BY THE NUMBERS: Through two games, senior forward
Autumn Moorcroft (Mossyrock, Wash./Mossyrock HS/Lower Columbia CC) is the team leading scorer with an average of 9.5 points per game. Senior post
Gabi Fenumiai (Juneau, Alaska/Juneau-Douglas HS/Peninsula College) is the team rebound leader with 4.5 per game, and junior guard
Corina Tacardon (Sacramento, Calif./CK McClatchy HS/Sacramento City College) contributes 2.5 steals per game.
ABOUT LEWIS & CLARK: Saturday night's game at Evergreen will be the third in four nights for the Pioneers, who host Corban on Wednesday to open followed by another home contest against Northwest on Friday. PRESEASON POLL: In their 2016-17 preseason poll, Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball coaches have picked The Evergreen State College to repeat its ninth-place finish of a season ago. After finishing in the top spot a season ago, Southern Oregon has been selected to repeat as conference champions, claiming eight first place votes in coaches' poll. The Raiders finished with a 19-1 conference record and a CCC tournament championship, in addition to finishing as national runner-up, last year. Eastern Oregon earned 107 points and two first-place votes in the poll to come in second after a 16-4 conference record and a 21-10 overall mark last season. Oregon Tech claimed the third spot in the poll after tying for second place in the conference standings with EOU last season at 16-4. The Owls are coming off an appearance in the CCC tournament championship game, and making it to the Sweet 16 in the national tournament.
