Box Score Visiting Lewis & Clark College outscored The Evergreen State College by 19 points in the middle two quarters Saturday night in recording a 65-55 non-conference women's basketball win at Costantino Recreation Center.
The Geoducks (0-3) took a 12-7 lead after the first quarter before the Pioneers (2-1) changed the tide of the game. Trailing for much of the opening 20 minutes, they took the lead for good on a pair of Janessa Willie free throws with 36 seconds left in the second quarter. Lauren Wood hit a layup in the closings seconds to send the visitors to the halftime locker room with a 26-23 lead.
The third period was all Lewis & Clark as the visitors built a 15-point lead, 42-27, with 4:19 to play in the quarter. Ayisat Afolabi scored six points during the surge in which Evergreen's only points came on a layup and two free throws.
Lewis & Clark built its largest lead at 18 points early in the fourth quarter and the Geoducks were unable to whittle their deficit to less than double figures the rest of the way.
Zaria Jones led Evergreen in scoring with 13 points and she also registered four assists and two steals.
Autumn Moorcroft scored nine points and had a team-high eight rebounds.
Evergreen shot just 38 percent for the game and was 0-for-9 from beyond the three-point line. Rebounding went to the Geoducks, 37-36.
Afolabi led the Pioneers with 15 points and six rebounds, while Wood tallied a dozen in the win.
The Geoducks return to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday when they host the Pacific Lutheran Lutes in another non-conference contest.
