WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NOTES: Following the Christmas break, The Evergreen State College returns to Cascade Collegiate Conference action this weekend with a pair of home games. The Geoducks host the College of Idaho Coyotes on Friday and the nationally ranked Eastern Oregon Mountaineers on Saturday, New Year's Eve. Tipoff for both games is 5:30 p.m. in Costantino Recreation Center.

FOLLOW THE GEODUCKS: Evergreen fans unable attend home games can support their Geoducks via live stats and/or a live video stream at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/evergreen/.

ABOUT THE GEODUCKS: Evergreen brings a 3-8 overall record, including a 2-3 conference mark, into this weekend's game. All three of the Geoducks' wins have been at home, where they are 3-1. The Geoducks are last among conference teams in scoring average at 53.4 points per game, and they are eighth in scoring defense, allowing 72.0 per contest. Evergreen has outrebounded opponents by 0.1 per game, but continues to be haunted by an average of 23.7 turnovers per game.

COACHING CHANGE: The Evergreen State College Director of Recreation and Athletics, Andrew Beattie, announced Thursday that Jennifer Schooler has resigned as women's basketball head coach. Schooler cited personal reasons for stepping down in her third season at Evergreen. Beattie also announced that Gil Rigell, women's basketball head coach at Pacific Lutheran University from 1997-2007, will serve as interim head coach through the remainder of the season.

FENUMIAI ON FIRE: After a slow start, senior post Gabi Fenumiai has been on fire in recent games. Fenumiai has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games and has improved her field goal shooting percentage to 64 percent, best in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Fenumiai, who averaged 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds for Evergreen last season, is the team's scoring with 13.5 points per game.

MOORCROFT MAKING HER MARK: Senior post Autumn Moorcroft has played some of her best basketball in recent games with four consecutive double-figure points totals. In two of those four she has pulled down at least 10 rebounds. For the season, Moorcroft averages 9.4 points and a team-best 6.3 rebounds per game.

ABOUT COLLEGE OF IDAHO: After losing its first six games against some difficult opponents, College of Idaho has won two of its last three. The Coyotes feature one of the league's best players in guard Petra Lumpert, who averages 15.7 points, 4.1 assists and 2.2 steals while shooting 45 percent from three-point range and 83 percent from the foul line. Alyssa Case ranks second in the conference with 2.7 steals per game.

THE SERIES: College of Idaho leads the all-time series, 33-6, and is 15-4 against the Geoducks in Olympia. College of Idaho swept Evergreen last year, winning 71-66 in Caldwell and 75-66 in Olympia.

ABOUT EASTERN OREGON: The Mountaineers come to Western Washington ranked No. 19 in NAIA Division II women's basketball. They have a 12-2 overall record, including a 4-0 mark in the conference, and play at Northwest University on Friday night. There is great balance and no superstars on the Eastern Oregon team. Guard Maya Ah You is the scoring leader with 12.9 points per game, and joining her in double-figure scoring averages are guard Payton Parrish at 10.8, guard Darian Gasseling at 10.2 and forward Stormee Van Belle at 10.0. The Mountaineers average 73.7 points per game, second best in the CCC, and they are first in field goal percentage (.459) and three-point shooting (.357). Additionally, Eastern Oregon has the second-best scoring defense, allowing just 56.3 points per game, while outrebounding opponents by 11.8 per contest, tops in the CCC.

RECENT RESULTS: Eastern Oregon has a 17-game winning streak over Evergreen, with the last Geoducks victory coming by a 67-63 score on Feb. 16, 2008. Last season, Eastern Oregon beat Evergreen 70-55 in La Grande and 63-50 in Olympia.

SOUTHERN OREGON 89, EVERGREEN 59: Autumn Moorcroft recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds on Saturday, Dec. 17, but it wasn't enough to prevent Evergreen from dropping an 89-59 conference decision to No. 4-ranked Southern Oregon in Ashland.

OREGON TECH 65, EVERGREEN 40: Evergreen had a shooting percentage matching the cold weather outside in falling to the host Oregon Tech Lady Owls, 65-40, in a conference game played Sunday, Dec. 18, in Klamath Falls. The Geoducks shot just 29 percent from the field, including an ice-cold 1-for-12 from three-point range, and they hit 50 percent of their free throws. Autumn Moorcroft scored 11 points and Imani Dunn grabbed nine rebounds to lead Evergreen.
