OLYMPIA, WA – Whether taking in the Perseid Meteor Shower or enjoying an afternoon of soccer, Olympians were seeing stars this weekend. On Saturday, the Geoducks men's and women's soccer programs welcomed former Geoducks stars back to the pitch as the teams hosted their annual Alumni Game.
Several members of the 2015 women's team returned to campus to take part in the action.
Myka Arneson,
Emily Gordon, and
Emily Hardy were welcomed by former teammates excited to see familiar faces.
Also making an appearance for the Geoducks was former NAIA All-American and sister of Head Coach
Adam Fenster,
Tiffany Fenster. Not to be outdone, Coach Fenster was among those lacing up for the men's alumni team. After some stretching, coach was looking like a spring chicken and enjoyed cheers from members of his 2016 team.
Joining Fenster on the pitch was former NAIA All-American
Joey Gjertsen. Gjertsen, a former Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Year, has enjoyed a career as a professional player following his time at Evergreen. Gjertsen appeared in 36 MLS games during a three-year stint with San Jose. He played last season for his hometown Tacoma Stars.
Other notable men's soccer alumni to arrive on Saturday were NAIA All-American honorable mentions
Nate Boatright and
Willie Spurr. Joining the pair was former teammates
Brady Espinoza and
Tanner Williams, both CCC 1
st Team All-Conference selections. Boatright, Spurr and Williams played on last year's team that finished a program best 13-3-2. Espinoza, a CCC Defender of the Year, last played for the Geoducks in 2013.
