Box Score SALEM, Ore. - A slow start in the opening quarter put The Evergreen State College behind from the outset and the Geoducks weren't able to catch up on Friday night in dropping a 77-61 Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball decision to the host Corban Warriors in a game played at C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
The Warriors (8-7 overall, 2-5 CCC) scored the game's first 11 points in building a lead that, try as they might, the Geoducks (3-12, 2-6) were not able to overcome. Corban hit a late three-pointer to build a 25-13 lead by the end of the first quarter.
By that point, the Warriors were 11-for-16 from the field, or 69 percent, and they were hitting at a 62 percent clip in building a 47-32 advantage at the intermission. They led by as many as 27 points late in the third period before settling for the 16-point win.
Evergreen, which outscored the hosts 18-7 in the final quarter to close the gap, shot 40 percent (19-for-47) from the field and was 4-for-8 from beyond the three-point arc.
Corina Tacardon knocked down a pair of three-pointers on the way to a game-high 15 points for the Geoducks.
Imani Dunn scored seven of her 13 points at the foul line and
Zaria Jones added 11 points for Evergreen, which had a game-high eight rebounds from
Gabi Fenumiai.
Maci Benedict scored 17 points for the Warriors, which also got 15 points apiece from Sadie Pilgeram and Maddey Pflaumer, the latter who shot 7-for-8 from the field.
The Warriors finished the game shooting 54 percent from the field, and they also enjoyed a 35-26 edge in rebounding.
Evergreen returns to conference action at 5:30 p.m. Saturday when it plays Northwest Christian in Eugene.
