Higginbotham Scores 23 but Evergreen Loses

Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Alexcis Higginbotham tied for game-high scoring honors with 23 points but the Evergreen Geoducks were outscored by seven points in the final quarter in dropping a 70-62 non-conference women's basketball decision to the host Pacific Boxers here Saturday night.

The Geoducks (0-3) trailed 54-53 entering the final period but saw the Boxers (2-2) pull away in the closing minutes.

Higginbotham shot 9-for-14 overall and 5-for-8 from outside the three-point line in tying her Evergreen single-game high total, which came in a win over Northwest University on Jan. 9, 2018.

The Geoducks took their largest lead of the game at 18-10 on a Higginbotham three-pointer with 3:06 to play in the opening period, and they led 21-17 after 10 minutes. Later, an Amber Jones layup put Evergreen on top 42-38, but consecutive three pointers by Liana Tanaka gave the hosts a 44-42 lead.

Deidra Miller's two free throw tied the game at 51-51 with 2:08 to play in the third period, but a Courtney Carolan three ball gave Pacific an advantage it would not lose. The Geoducks got within two points twice in the final quarter, the last at 60-58 on a triple by Jones with 6:02 left, but the Boxers scored 10 of the next 12 points to put the game away.

In addition to her 23 points, Higginbotham added six rebounds to lead the Geoducks in that category. Both Jones and Miller added 12 points for Evergreen, which shot 41 percent overall and 45 percent (10-for-22) from beyond the arc.

Tanaka scored 23 points for the Boxers, who also got 16 points and 10 rebounds from Carolan.

Next up for Evergreen is the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener against Warner Pacific at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, inside Costantino Recreation Center.
