Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Evergreen State College gave No. 6-ranked Eastern Oregon a run for its money for 20 minutes before the Mountaineers pulled away for a 91-59 victory in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball quarterfinal round game.
The win was the 22nd straight for the Mountaineers (28-2), who won the conference regular season title with a 20-0 record, and they will host a semifinal game on Friday night in Quinn Coliseum. For the Geoducks (10-15), who came into the game as the tournament's eight seed, the season comes to an end.
Despite facing long odds as a significant underdog, Evergreen led by as many as four points in the first quarter, which ended tied at 24-24. Eastern Oregon gained the momentum in the second period, however, with a barrage of three-point shots that opened up a 17-point lead. The Geoducks didn't go away so easily, however, closing the period with an 8-0 run to make it a 51-42 score at the intermission.
The Mountaineers regained a double-digit advantage early in the third period following five straight points by Payton Parrish, and they played add-on from there.
Kaelin Williams-Kennedy led Evergreen with 12 points, followed by
Jahpera McEachin and
Cayla Jones with 11 apiece and
Deidra Miller with 10.Â
After shooting the ball well in the first quarter, the Geoducks ended the game at 32.9 percent (24-for-73), and they lost the rebound battle, 56-36.
Parrish scored 26 points to lead the Mountaineers.
