The Geoducks Track & Field programs at Evergreen State College attended the University of Portland Indoor Meet #1 Sunday at the Chiles Center, located at the UP Campus.
Alauna Carstens broke the 2011 school record of 5:12.24, set by Karissa Carlson, in a time of 5:07.57, en route to winning the overall women's mile.
After her stellar performance, Alauna spoke about how excited she is for what's to come: "Indoor season is just getting started, and everyone is doing so well! Looking forward to more PRs and fun meets."
"Another great day to be a Geoduck!" Head Coach Joel Pearson adds, "The past 9 months of leading the program have been awesome, I continue to be impressed with this family's passion, drive, and competitiveness!"
Following Alauna's performance and highlighting the day, freshman
Mark Tiersma led his heat of the mile, keeping the pace honest, ending with a 15-second personal best in 4:39.86! Mark's time was the 3rd fastest time in Geoduck history. Freshman
Kaleb Everson also added his name to the all-time list, earning the 9th fastest performance in school history with a time of 5:20.17
"We've been training really hard in the off season and it was good for it to pay off during my first indoor meet!" an emphatic
Mark Tiersma said of his performance.
"Despite a few snow days and lots of rain, these athletes have continued to put in the work and are beginning to reap the rewards of their toil," says Assistant Coach Katie Burnett.
