PORTLAND, Ore. -- Athletes from The Evergreen State College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Portland Indoor #2 on Sunday, Feb. 8. The meet was hosted at the Chiles Center on the University of Portland campus. The Geoducks excelled in several events.

Dani Buttrell (Fr.) of Evergreen placed third in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.79. She set a season best with her performance.

In the men's 600-meter run, Nathaniel Sanchez (Fr.) registered a time of 1:28.06 for the Geoducks. Austin Major (So.) finished the race with a season-best time of 1:30.48. Daniel Sanchez (Fr.) was timed at 1:31.66.

Three Geoducks placed 2-3-4 in the second heat of the men's mile run. Evan Williams (So.) placed second during the heat as he reached the finish line in 4:36.92. Jackson Rye (So.) was third in the heat at 4:37.31. Rye was soon followed by Osvaldo Calderon (So.) in fourth place at 4:37.66.

Izabelle Trefts (Sr.) earned a personal record time of 5:38.80 for Evergreen in the women's mile run. Madison Palek (So.) achieved a time for the Geoducks in the women's mile of 4:42.08.

"Congrats to the family on a great meet in Portland," Evergreen Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Joel Pearson said. "We had a lot of all-time top 10 performances this weekend and it was capped off by individuals who had some much-needed breakthrough days. Dani's performance in the 800 showed why she is going to be an aggressive force in the CCC, while Nathaniel, Austin, and Daniel had impressive 600 times.

"This was the meet we needed heading into Spokane," Pearson added. "I'm excited for the Whitworth Invite and nationals to come."

The Geoducks will participate in the Whitworth Indoor Invitational on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14. The meet, hosted by Whitworth University, will be held at The Podium in Spokane, Washington.
