Williams Places Third in Steeplechase at OSU High Performance

CORVALLIS, Ore. – A third place finish and two personal records highlighted the efforts of The Evergreen State College track and field teams at the OSU High Performance on Friday, May 1. Evan Williams (Jr.) took third place in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Will Niskanen (So.) set a personal record in the men's steeplechase, while Sylvie Biesack (Fr.) registered a personal best time in the women's 1,500-meter run.

Williams earned a time of 10:05.73 in the men's steeplechase. His time was about two seconds away from his school record and Cascade Collegiate Conference qualifying time of 10:03.37 last weekend during the Nancy & Norm Berney Classic at Corban University in Salem, Oregon.

Niskanen took seventh place in the men's steeplechase. He finished the race in a personal best time of 10:26.74, lowering his previous best, set last week, by about one second.

Biesack was timed at 5:05.94 in the women's 1,500-meter run. She set her previous best of 5:11.82 last week at Corban's meet.

Several other Geoducks also experienced consistency with their performances at OSU on Friday.

Austin Major (Jr.) completed the men's 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.42. He has recently put together several times below 1:02 in the 400 hurdles.

Dani Buttrell (So.) achieved a time of 11:40.96 in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. She has completed the steeplechase in under 12 minutes four times this spring, including her personal record time of 11:34.08 at the Whitworth Peace Meet on April 3.

In the women's hammer throw, Claire Ryan (Jr.) attained a top mark of 40.75 meters at OSU. She has consistently earned marks of at least 40 meters in the hammer throw at recent meets for a total of six times this season.

Williams, Major, Buttrell, and Ryan all previously qualified for this year's CCC Championships, which will be held on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9 in La Grande, Oregon. Overall, Evergreen has qualified a total of 15 athletes for the CCC Championships.
