OLYMPIA, Wash. –
Jarvae Lindsay (Fr.) from the Evergreen men's track and field team is the Evergreen Featured Athlete of the Week for February 12, 2026. Lindsay arrived at Evergreen after graduating from Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, Washington.
In high school, Lindsay competed in football all four years and participated in track and field for three seasons. He was successful in both sports.
"Some notable memories for me include earning All-Metro League as a running back for football, plus qualifying and placing well at every big meet I participated in during track and field," Lindsay commented.
He really enjoys track and field. The sport naturally lets him notice the progress he's made in a way that might not be so easy in other sports.
"Track and field really allows you to see improvements as they happen, which I love," Lindsay noted. "It helps me stay grounded and not overthink the performances. My best events are definitely long jump and triple jump as those are the events where I participated at the highest level and placed the highest."
After competing in athletics at Rainier Beach HS, Lindsay was ready to take his skills to the college level while working toward a college degree. Evergreen was a great match for him.
"The addition of Jarvae to our family has been tremendous," Evergreen Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach
Joel Pearson said. "Not only is he a great student and works hard at practice, but Jarvae serves as one of our team leaders helping others academically, in practice, and with mental health and support."
"As a student, I kept hearing that Evergreen was a great human services school, and with me wanting to do social work, hearing that was great for me," Lindsay said. "As an athlete, I've been in contact with Head Coach
Joel Pearson for a while, and hearing what he wants to turn the speed and power group into, I thought it was a great squad. I wanted to be a part of the culture he was building."
Lindsay brings speed, skill, and a strong commitment to track and field. He is a tremendous athlete to coach.
"One of my strengths as a sprinter and jumper is my work ethic," Lindsay said. "I always try to critique myself and be aware of what I'm doing well and what I need to work on. Even when I am doing good, I feel there's always room for improvement in all aspects. I always make sure I'm coachable because things work a lot smoother when you are."
The friendships shared by athletes on the Evergreen men's and women's track and field teams are appreciated by Lindsay. He is glad that team members interact in a positive way, both while practicing and competing and during their spare time.
"I really enjoy how the team has personality, and everyone gets along with each other, but we all lock in to work when it's time to do so," he noted.
Lindsay does occasionally find free time for himself. There are several activities that occupy some of his time away from academics and athletics.
"I love to write in my notes app about whatever topic comes to mind," Lindsay affirmed. "And I watch anime and listen to music. Not a day goes by where I haven't listened to music for at least a few hours."
Freshmen often are undecided about their academic interests, but Lindsay already has a strong positive feeling about his academic plan.
"I'm definitely interested in psychology," he commented. "I love learning what makes people's heads work the way they do, as well as ways to help people who need it. I plan to get my master's degree in either social work or psychiatry."
