Track & Field Set All-Time Marks in George Fox, Portland

The Evergreen State College Track & Field programs competed this weekend in Oregon, first with the George Fox Indoor Meet #1, held at their Multi-Use Facility in Newberg, Oregon. The Geoducks returned to Oregon the following day to the University of Portland Chiles Center for the Portland Indoor Meet #2.

Junior Corona Parker had a great weekend with all three performances making the all-time list! Corona started off Saturday with the 60 hurdles (9.74), before competing in the Long Jump (4.82), both being the 2nd best geoduck performances ever. On Sunday, Corona ran the 800 (2:48.30) achieving the 5th best mark all-time. Junior Iris Campesino also performed well Saturday as she completed the 3rd best performance in school history with a 9.30 in the 60 meters.

"Corona is on the way to achieving another national qualifying mark in the heptathlon this upcoming outdoor season." Assistant Coach Katie Burnett remarked, "We have more training and racing ahead and are excited to continue progress on achieving the NAIA standard."

Sunday's meet at Portland Indoor Meet #2 started off well with Freshman Mark Tiersma posting the 2nd best time in evergreen history in the Men's 3,000 with a time of 9:11.28. The only greener student-athlete with a better time is TESC Hall of Fame all-American athlete Brian Rankstraw who ran 9:04.7 in 2009. Also competing in the Men's 3,000 was Junior River Scheurell, who posted the 9th best time in school history with 11:52.20. Junior Tabea Shepler achieved the 4th best indoor mile posted by a greener in 6:49.60.

"HUGE PR by Mark! What a performance!" Head Coach Joel Pearson said. "His time is about 35 seconds faster than his PR. He got out hard, took charge, and had fun! Looking forward to more!"
