OLYMPIA, Wash. --
Alexandra Foley (Sr., D) scored the tying goal with 1:25 remaining in the game, as The Evergreen State College equalized Northwest University 2-2 in Cascade College Conference action on Friday, Sept. 27 at Geoduck Pitch. Foley's goal was the only score by either team in the second half.
"Today was a good test of character for us," Evergreen Head Women's Soccer Coach
Kate Green said. "It was our seniors' final home opener. We asked them to come out to a quick start and they did, scoring only a few minutes into the match. Northwest is a hardworking team. They didn't let up and earned their two goals. We've trained being down a goal. Our players adjusted well to create a great opportunity for Alex to score."
Evergreen moved to 0-4-2 on the season and to 0-2-1 in the CCC. Northwest ended the game at 2-1-1 overall, 1-1-1- in the CCC.
The Geoducks opened the scoring just 2:35 into the contest on a goal by
Peyton Rhyne (Sr., D). Rhyne took control of the ball on a turnover and scored from 13 yards. It was Rhyne's third goal of the season.
Northwest tied the game just over three minutes later when Rachel Russell shot into the goal at 5:48. The score remained 1-1 until Jordan Cagle tallied a goal at 38:24. Cagle was assisted on the play by Morgan Perriguoe. Both of the Eagles' goals in the first half were scored following turnovers.
Evergreen claimed the final goal on Foley's shot at 88:35. She was 14 yards out on the right side and sent the ball into the top right portion of the goal.
Angela Celedon (Fr., M) provided an assist on the play with a crossing pass from the left side.
The Eagles achieved a 19-6 advantage in total shots and a 7-3 margin in shots on goal. Northwest also owned a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.Â
Anna Varela (Jr., GK) registered five saves for Evergreen. Katie Snow made one save for Northwest.
Evergreen will play its next game at Warner Pacific University on Friday, Oct. 4. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. PDT.
