Corona Parker (Sr.) and
Alauna Carstens (Jr.) competed for The Evergreen State College at the UW Invitational on Friday, Jan. 31. The meet was hosted by the University of Washington at the Dempsey Indoor track and field facility. Parker broke her own school record in the women's high jump while competing in the indoor pentathlon. Carstens improved her "A" qualifying time in the women's 3,000-meter run for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Parker cleared 1.61 meters (5' 3.25") in the indoor pentathlon high jump. She broke her previous school record of 1.55 meters (5' 1"). She earned 747 points for her successful high jump, providing her top score of the day. She finished the pentathlon with 2,851 points.
In addition, Parker scored 690 points in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.12 seconds. Other results for Parker were 8.26 meters (27' 1.25") in the shot put, 4.77 meters (15' 7.75") in the long jump, and 2:46.53 in the 800-meter run.
Carstens registered a time of 9:44.54 in the 3,000-meter run for the third-fastest time in the NAIA this season. She lowered her time from 9:56.75 achieved at the UW Indoor Preview two weeks ago on Jan. 17. Both times met the NAIA indoor standard of 9:57.50.
Evergreen will compete at the Corban Indoor Open on Saturday, Feb. 1. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. PST at Corban's Outdoor Athletic Complex in Salem, Oregon.
