SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College women's track and field athletes
Corona Parker (Sr.) and
Alauna Carstens (Jr.) were successful in their efforts at the UW Husky Classic on Friday, Feb. 14. Parker competed in the high jump and finished just below her school record, while Carstens set a school record in the 3,000-meter run. The meet, which is being held at the Dempsey Indoor track and field facility on the University of Washington campus, will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 15.
Parker cleared 1.60 meters (5' 3") in the high jump. She went over the bar on her second attempt at 1.60. Parker's school record, set at the UW Invitational on Jan. 31, is 1.61 meters (5' 3.25"). On Friday, after athletes cleared 1.60 meters, the height was raised to 1.65 meters (5' 5"), where Parker and three other competitors were unable to advance.
Elizabeth Tarczy of Fresno State University won the women's high jump by clearing 1.75 meters (5' 8.75"). Eliana Saunders from Azusa Pacific University also made it over the bar at 1.75 meters but took second place on jumps.
Carstens set Evergreen's school record in the 3,000 with a time of 9:40.70. She took second place in her heat at the UW Husky Classic while lowering her previous best time of the season by 3.84 seconds from 9:44.54. Carstens, who previously qualified for the upcoming NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, is ranked second in the NAIA in the 3,000 this year.
On Saturday, Carstens is scheduled to compete in the women's mile run. The race is slated to begin at 10:55 a.m. PST.
