SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College athlete
Alauna Carstens (Jr.) set the school record and earned an NAIA "A" qualifying time in the women's indoor mile at the UW Husky Classic on Saturday, Feb. 15. The meet was held at the Dempsey Indoor track and field facility on the University of Washington campus.
Carstens completed the mile in 4:57.58. She broke her own school record of 5:00.12. She also qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships by earning a time under the "A" standard of 5:00.00. Carstens previously qualified for this year's NAIA Indoor Championships in the 3,000-meter run and the 5,000-meter run.
"We are very excited," said Evergreen Head Track and Field Coach
Joel Pearson. "These were incredible performances for Alauna with the 3K on Friday and the mile on Saturday. This puts her in good position for the 3K at the NAIA Nationals, which has the 3K prelims and finals on back-to-back days!"
