SPOKANE, Wash. --
Alauna Carstens (Jr.) won the women's 5,000-meter run for The Evergreen State College and qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships during action at the Riverfront Invitational and Multis on Friday, Feb. 7. The meet, which started on Thursday and will conclude on Saturday, is being held indoors at The Podium.
Carstens took first place with a time of 17:15.53. She won by 1:06.50 over Rachel Moen from UC Irvine, who earned second place at 18:22.03. Carstens qualified for the NAIA Championships in the 5,000 by meeting the "A" standard. Her time is ranked sixth in the NAIA this season.
The Geoducks entered a total of five runners in the women's 5,000.
Sherlyn Perales (Fr.) registered a time of 19:59.78 and
Madison Palek (So.) crossed the finish line in 20:22.28. Also for Evergreen,
Izabelle Trefts (Jr.) was timed at 20:54.84, while
Mara Schwenneker (Jr.) finished in 21:00.98.
Corona Parker (Sr.) of Evergreen cleared 1.58 meters (5' 2.25") in the women's high jump. She was successful at 1.58 meters for the second day in a row after clearing the height in the indoor pentathlon on Thursday. She recently set the school record of 1.61 meters (5' 3.25") at the UW Invitational on Jan. 31.
Parker tied with three athletes for 11th place out of 31 entries. Also clearing 1.58 meters (5' 2.25") were Jamie Wade from Boise State University, Anne Shipp of Eastern Washington University, and Madison Kremer from the University of Montana.
Two Geoducks competed in the men's 5,000-meter run on Friday.
Luis Esquivel (Fr.) achieved a time of 16:23.38.
Osvaldo Calderon (Fr.) reached the finish line in 17:47.57.
