FOREST GROVE, Ore. --
Jonathan Van Pelt (Fr.) from The Evergreen State College men's track and field team and
Maddie Morgan (Jr.) from the Evergreen women's track and field team competed at the Pacific University Multi-Event Meet on Monday, March 24 and Tuesday, March 25. Van Pelt participated in the decathlon while Morgan participated in the heptathlon.
Van Pelt established school records in the decathlon and all 10 decathlon events as the first Geoduck to participate in a decathlon competition. He registered an overall score of 4,475 points.
The highest event score for Van Pelt was in the 100-meter dash with 641 points for a time of 12.05 seconds. He added a score of 528 points in the shot put as he achieved a mark of 10.70 meters (35' 1.25"). He scored 496 points in the long jump with a top distance of 5.57 meters (18' 3.25"). Van Pelt tacked on 465 points with a time of 58.52 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
Morgan registered an overall score of 1,771 points during the seven events of the heptathlon. Her top score was 394 points with a time of 31.31 seconds in the 200-meter dash. She earned 349 points with a throw of 23.20 meters (76' 1") in the javelin.
By competing in a multi-event meet, Van Pelt and Morgan have earned the ability to compete at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships on April 17 and April 18. The CCC Multi-Event Meet will be held at Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
Next on the Evergreen track and field schedule is the PLU Spring Invitational on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5. The meet will be held at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington.
