Geoducks Finish Second Season in Men's Wrestling

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Evergreen State College men's wrestling team concluded its second season of competition in 2024-25. Many of Evergreen's wrestlers helped the Geoducks begin the sport last year and continued the growing process this year.

Evergreen competes in the NAIA and is a member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

"After the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, we can definitely look back and see the big jumps we have made performance wise!" Evergreen Head Men's Wrestling Coach Greg Ford said. "This was the first year that we had multiple wrestlers who were in the top 20 in the Open Mat national rankings, and they are both returning."

Freshman Ronnell Parker-Borrero led the way for the Geoducks. He was nationally ranked in the 184-pound weight class during the season and finished sixth at the CCC Tournament. He finished the year with a 10-6 record despite missing part of the season due to an injury. He was valuable due to his leadership and competitive skills.

Parker-Borrero registered several key wins for the Geoducks. He won by pins against Adrian Chavez Morales from Southern Oregon University and Malachi Dowdell of Simpson University (Calif.). He won 9-5 versus Davi Ito of Westcliff University (Calif.) while playing up a weight class at 197.

Horacio Godinez (Fr.) earned a 24-7 overall. He went 11-1 in the 141-pound weight class and also competed in the 149-pound weight class. Godinez was nationally ranked at 141 pounds during the season. He won the last two tournaments where he competed.

Jeramias Sandoval controls a Clackamas CC wrestler at the Mike Clock Open."So much positive has come from this season with our team unity and building a foundation that will allow us to be successful for years to come," Ford commented. "We were able to scratch some dual meet wins. Our focus lets us continue to grow and climb up and through our conference."

Jeramias Sandoval (Jr.) provided Evergreen with a solid season at 141 pounds. He registered a 22-8 overall record. He has achieved a 40-17 record during the two years of Evergreen's wrestling program. Sandoval earned a key win with a pin over Caleb Morales of Montana State University-Northern during the Simpson Duals.

Seth Dawkins (So.) wrestled at 157 pounds and 149 pounds. He accumulated a 17-14 overall record with a 9-2 mark in the 149-pound weight class. He owns a 29-22 career record with the Geoducks.

Malachi Wallway controls his opponent.Malachi Wallway (So.) competed in the 125-pound weight class and battled his way to a 15-12 record during the season. He has earned 31 career wins.

Sophomore Hassan Abdi represented Evergreen at 165 pounds. He ended the year with a 9-8 overall record.

Highlighting the season were home competitions at the Costantino Recreation Center on Jan. 18 and Jan. 19. Evergreen hosted dual meets against the University of Idaho club team and Westcliff University to open the weekend. The next day, the Geoducks hosted the first Evergreen Open.

"I am happy to say that with our young program we are trending upwards and have been having a monstrous recruiting cycle" Ford noted. "We will have depth and hungry athletes who want to come and make an impact in the CCC right now."

"We are looking forward to returning all of our athletes for next season, and a couple of guys who sustained season-ending injuries will be back in full swing," Ford added. "Be on the lookout for the Geoduck men's wrestling team for next season."
