Carstens, Ryan, Sackrider Selected Academic All-District

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Three members of The Evergreen State College women's cross country and women's track and field teams have been named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). The student-athletes were chosen Academic All-District on the NAIA Women's Track& Field/Cross Country Team for the 2024-25 academic year.
 
Honorees from Evergreen were Alauna Carstens (Jr., So. in indoor track), Claire Ryan (So.), and Jalyn Sackrider (Sr.). Carstens also was selected for the national ballot for Academic All-America.
 
Carstens competed as a distance runner on the Evergreen cross country and track and field teams. Ryan and Sackrider competed in throwing events during the track and field season.

CSC Academic All-District honorees needed a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or higher and were required to be at least a sophomore academically and in terms of eligibility. In addition, qualifying student-athletes in NAIA track and field or cross country must have placed in the top 25 of a conference individual event during the academic year. Evergreen does not give letter grades, but academic accomplishments of the nominated student-athletes were converted to a 4.0 GPA scale.

In 2024-25, Carstens earned NAIA All-American three times. She won the marathon in 2 hours, 47 minutes, and 4 seconds for the second-best time in NAIA history. She placed third in the 3,000-meter run in 9:43.40 at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, and was eighth in the outdoor 10,000-meter run in 35:47.91 at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She was named the USTFCCCA West Region Athlete of the Year for NAIA indoor track and field.
 
She has been an NAIA All-American five times and has qualified for NAIA national meets six times. She won the women's 10,000-meter run at the 2025 Cascade Collegiate Conference Track and Field Championships.

Carstens was named Evergreen's Female Athlete of the Year for 2024-25 and was named Women's Collegiate Sports Star of the Year at the 2025 Thurston County Sports Awards. She was chosen Academic All-CCC in cross country and track and field and was selected as a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete in track and field.
 
Claire Ryan of Evergreen Track and FieldRyan's area of academic interest is Political Science. She is from Kent, Washington, and attended Kentlake High School. She was the Valedictorian of her senior.
 
At Evergreen, she has competed in the hammer throw for the Geoducks. She qualified for the CCC Championships this spring and placed 22nd in the hammer throw with a distance of 35.28 meters (115' 9"). She holds a career-best mark of 39.39 meters (129' 3") at the 2025 Pacific Lutheran University Open.
 
Ryan was named Academic All-Conference this spring. She also earned Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors this year.

She also was named Academic All-District in women's basketball. She is from Elma, Washington, and attended Elma High School. Her academic focus at Evergreen has been Education.
 
For the Geoducks in track and field, Sackrider has been a discus thrower. She took third place at the 2025 CCC Championships with a toss of 40.82 meters (133' 11") as she broke the Evergreen school record. It was the third consecutive year that she qualified for the CCC Championships in the discus.
 
At Evergreen, Sackrider played four seasons of basketball, participated in track and field for three seasons, and competed in volleyball for one season.

During the 2024-25 basketball season, she was named First Team All-CCC and was chosen CCC Co-Defensive Player of the Year after averaging 12.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 2.8 blocked shots per game. She set school records with 71 blocks this season and 190 blocks in her career. She is listed fourth on Evergreen's all-time list 966 career points and is second all-time with 736 career rebounds.
 
Sackrider was chosen for Evergreen's Career Achievement Award this spring. She claimed Academic All-CCC honors three times in basketball, three times in track and field, and once in volleyball. She was named a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete in basketball and track and field in 2024-25.
