OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College men's wrestling team continued to receive votes in the NAIA Men's Wrestling Top 25 Poll in the new list released on Jan. 15. In addition,
Horacio Godinez (So.) was included in the individual rankings for the 141-pound weight class.
The #1-ranked team in the NAIA remained Grand View University (Iowa) with 261 points. Just two points behind GVU was Life University (Ga.) ranked #2 with 259 points. Southeastern University (Fla.) held the #3 ranking with 231 points and Indiana Tech was #4 with 193 points. Oklahoma City University moved up one spot to #5 with 176 points. Southern Oregon University from the Cascade Collegiate Conference fell one spot to #6 at 169 points.
Southern Oregon was one of six CCC teams ranked in the Top 25. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) was listed at #8, with University of Providence (Mont.) at #12. Arizona Christian University followed at #15, while Corban University was tied with two other teams at #17. Montana State University-Norther was included at #24. Evergreen, Eastern Oregon University, Westcliff University (Calif.), and Simpson University (Calif.) received votes.
Godinez held the #19 ranking in the men's individual listings for the 141-pound weight class. Godinez won his match in a dual meet with the University of Idaho club team on Saturday, Jan. 17 and took third place at 141 pounds in the Evergreen Open on Sunday, Jan. 18. He advanced his record to 26-3 on the season. He has won two tournament championships, while placing second once and third twice.
Evergreen will compete at the Boxer Open, hosted by Pacific University, on Sunday, Jan. 25. Matches will begin at the Stoller Center in Forest Grove, Oregon, at 9 a.m. PST.
