Jordan Dam scored 22 points to lead four Evergreen players in double figures Saturday as the Geoducks rolled to an 81-63 men's basketball victory over the Linfield College Wildcats at the Bon Appetit NWC Tipoff Classic hosted by Lewis & Clark College.
Dam finished 8-for-11 overall, including a 4-for-6 mark from beyond the arc, as the Geoducks nailed 10 three-point attempts and shot 50 percent overall from the field.
Donald Terry matched Dam's three-point accuracy on the way to his 12 points, while
Alix Hernandez scored 14 points and
Kortney Darby added 12.
With the victory the Geoducks improve their season record to 1-1, and they return to action at 7 p.m. tomorrow when they face Lewis & Clark in the Bon Appetit Classic finale.
Dam drained a three-point shot for the game's first points, and after four lead changes and two ties, Evergreen took the lead for good at 14-12 on Darby's jumper with 14:45 left in the opening half. The Geoducks took their first double-digit lead, 30-19, when Terry drained a three with about eight minutes left. Linfield cut its deficit to eight points late in the half, but once Evergreen regained a 10-point advantage, it led by no less that that margin for the game's final 22 minutes.
In addition to scoring 14 points, Hernandez led the team with eight rebounds and also contributed three assists and two steals. Point guard
Frankie Johnson scored seven points and added five assists, five rebounds and three steals for the winners.
Ryan Cali scored 15 points to lead Linfield, which was playing its first game of the season.
