Geoducks Strike Early In 2-0 Win

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Scoring just 28 seconds into the game, the Evergreen Geoducks made easy work of the Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls, earning a 2-0 win in a Cascade Conference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at Steen Sports Park in Klamath Falls, Ore.

On the first play of the game, senior Rayna Rain found sophomore Vanessa Zamora open at hte top of the box and Zamora chipped in the score to give Evergreen an early 1-0 lead just 28 seconds into the match. The Geoducks continued to pressure the Owls, putting five shots on frame in the first 45 minutes while OIT struggled to create strong offensive chances, going without a shot-on-goal in the first half.

In the second half, the Hustlin' Owls came out a little stronger by Evergreen keeper Kyla Kitts was even stronger, making six saves to preserve the shutout.

The Geoducks earned the insurance goal in the 70th minute as Katie Hebein found Irina Lyons, who finished for her first Evergreen goal as the green and white picked up the important conference win.

Oregon Tech keepers Kourtney Scoggins and Emma Niskanenen combined for 10 saves, with each players allowing one goal in one half of action.

Evergreen returns to Olympia on Saturday afternoon, playing host to Northwest in a Cascade Conference match. First kick with the Eagles is set for 2 p.m. at Geoduck Pitch in Olympia, Wash.
