COMING UP: The Evergreen State College (1-2) plays Montana-Western (1-2) at 3 p.m. Friday and Lewis-Clark State (3-0) at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Clearwater River Casino and Lodge Invitational hosted by Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho.

FOLLOW THE GEODUCKS: Both Evergreen games at the LCSC tournament can be viewed via live stats at http://www.dakstats.com/WebSync/Pages/Tournament/TournamentPage.aspx?association=10&sg=MBB&tour=1702

ABOUT THE GEODUCKS: Evergreen takes a 1-2 record into the tournament after an 86-71 victory over Northwest University in the Geoducks' home opener this past Tuesday. Danny Powell, the 6-7, 230-pound junior transfer, leads the team with averages of 14.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. On Tuesday versus Northwest he was one rebound shy of his third consecutive double-double in points and rebounds to open the season. Alix Hernandez has played the one game against Northwest and tallied 16 points and 13 rebounds. Others averaging double figures in scoring are junior transfer Taylor Drey at 11.3 points per game and senior guard Frankie Johnson at 10.0 per contest. Johnson leads the team with an average of 4.0 assists per game.

ABOUT MONTANA-WESTERN: UMW, ranked No. 23 in NAIA Division II basketball, is 0-3 this season, including losses to Cascade Collegiate Conference opponents College of Idaho and Walla Walla.

ABOUT LEWIS-CLARK STATE: The Warriors, who play Corban in their tournament opener on Friday, are off to a 3-0 start and have outscored their opponents by an average of 60 points per game – yes, 60 per game. The team does have a pair of exhibition losses to NCAA Division I opponents Washington State and Idaho, the WSU game being close at 81-74 in favor of the Cougars. Because of its blowout victories, LCSC's top two scorers both come off of the bench. David Shedrick averages 15.3 points and Doug McDaniel averages 14.5. The rebounding leader at 8.3 per game, Zavon Jackson, also comes off the bench.

EVERGREEN ENDS LOSING STREAK AGAINST NORTHWEST: The Geoducks put an emphatic end to a 14-game losing streak to Northwest University, thumping the visiting Eagles, 86-71, in a non-conference game played Tuesday night at CRC Gymnasium. You would have to go all the way back to Dec. 30, 2009, to find the last time that Evergreen defeated Northwest, but the Geoducks accomplished the task in convincing fashion, leading by as many as 23 points late in the second half. Alix Hernandez tallied a double-double for Evergreen with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Danny Powell came within one rebound of his third consecutive double-double, ending up with a team-high 17 points and nine boards for the Geoducks. Frankie Johnson scored 15 points and Jarrick Mitchell contributed a game-high five assists in the victory. Evergreen finished the game with 21 assists on their 32 field goals.
