Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon used a 22-1 scoring run during a six-minute stretch of the second half on the way to an 85-65 victory over The Evergreen State College in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball game played New Year's Eve night at Quinn Coliseum.
The Mountaineers (7-9 overall, 3-3 CCC) defeated Evergreen (5-10, 2-5) for the 15th consecutive time.
The contest was close through the first 30 minutes as evidenced by eight ties and 16 lead changes. The Geoducks' largest lead, 11-6, came with 13:43 left in the opening half following a three-point basket by
Danny Powell. The lead went back and forth several times before the Mountaineers grabbed a 34-33 advantage at the intermission.
Alix Hernandez broke a 54-54 tie with a basket and foul shot to put the Geoducks on top, 57-54, with 10:43 to play, but a Travis Meeker dunk on EOU's next possession led to the game-breaking surge by the home team.
Brock Otis scored 16 points to lead Evergreen, followed by Powell with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Hernandez with 13 points and three assists.For Powell, it was his 10th double-double of the season.
While the Geoducks turned the ball over only five times, they shot just 36 percent from the field, including 35 percent on 8-for-23 accuracy from beyond the three-point line.
Trell Washington nearly had a triple-double for the Mountaineers with 16 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists. Eastern Oregon was credited with 22 assists on its 35 baskets. Joining Washington in double figures were Travis Meeker with 16, Case Rada with 15 and Brandon Hoston with 12.
The Geoducks return to action at 7:30 p.m. next Friday when the Corban Warriors visit Costantino Recreation Center.
