Southern Oregon Topples Geoducks, 83-71

Jordan Dam scored all 23 of his points in the second half.
Box Score OLYMPIA - Tim Weber recorded a triple double and five Southern Oregon players scored in double figures as the Raiders defeated the Evergreen Geoducks, 83-71, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball game played Saturday night at CRC Gymnasium.

The Raiders improved their overall record to 20-6 and they are now 10-5 in the conference. Evergreen was unable to pull off its second consecutive upset following Friday's win against Oregon Tech and is now 4-17 overall and 1-13 in the CCC.

Weber, a slender 6-8 senior who plays like a point forward, finished the game with 13 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. He had seven of his assists in the opening half as the Raiders, ranked No. 17 in the NAIA Division II Top 25, raced out to a 38-19 lead at the intermission. At that point Southern Oregon was 16-for-31 from the floor and had a 22-12 edge in rebounding.

The visitors built an early 10-4 lead before Alix Hernandez hit bookend three-pointers during an 8-0 run to put the Geoducks on top, 12-10, with 14:22 left in the period. There were two ties and two lead changes before Southern Oregon started to pull away.

Southern Oregon led by as many as 23 points with about 14 minutes remaining in the game, but Evergreen's Jordan Dam heated up in the second half to pull his team to within 10 points, 74-64, with 1:53 on the clock.

Dam, held scoreless in the opening half, scored all of his game-high 23 points in the final 20 minutes. It nearly matched a performance of a couple of weekends ago when he scored 25 second half points out of his 29-point total in a loss at Northwest Christian. Despite Dam's best efforts, however, the Geoducks couldn't cut their deficit under double digits as the Raiders kept them at bay.

Eric Thompson was 9-for-16 from the field, including a trio of threes, to lead Southern Oregon with 21 points. He added eight rebounds as the visitors took a 40-23 edge in that category.

Other Southern Oregon double-figure scorers were Kenny Meyer with 14, Jordan West with 12 and Ben DeSaulnier with 10. The Raiders shot 55 percent (31-for-56) from the field and ended the game with 21 assists on their 31 baskets.

Alix Hernandez joined Dam in double figures with 18 points, and David Weatherspoon came off the bench to lead the team with five rebounds. Evergreen shared the ball, dishing out 20 assists on 27 baskets, including five by Hernandez. The Geoducks shot 46 percent (27-for-59) from the field and turned the ball over just seven times.

The Geoducks make their final regular season road trip next weekend when they play a pair of nationally ranked teams - Warner Pacific on Friday and Concordia on Saturday - in Portland.
