Box Score McMINNVILLE, Oregon – Linfield got on the board in the 10th minute and added a pair of goals after that to take a 3-0 victory Saturday afternoon over The Evergreen State College in the women's soccer season opener for the visiting Geoducks.
The Wildcats, a NCAA Division III regional power, opened the scoring at the 9:11 mark on the first of two consecutive goals by Emma Vukic, with the assist going to Kyleigh Jandro.
Evergreen was able to keep it a 1-0 game until the closing minute of the first half when Vukic scored on a free kick. The goal came at 44:27 and gave the Geoducks a difficult deficit to overcome in the second half. At the break the Wildcats owned a 6-3 advantage in shots and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
The second half went significantly better for Evergreen, which took six shots and three corner kicks to seven shots and no corners for the hosts. Still, it was Linfield that notched the only goal during the final 45 minutes when Brianna Norris scored an unassisted tally at 84:28.
Both teams used two goalkeepers in this early season contest.
Kayla Baskett and
Alison Mackey both had a pair of saves for the Geoducks, while Sarah Bailey and Elisa Randel combined for three saves for the Wildcats. Linfield ended up with a 13-9 advantage in shots.
Evergreen returns to action at noon on Saturday, Sept. 5, when it hosts University of Great Falls in a non-conference match at Geoduck Pitch.
